Did you know women experience incontinence twice as often as men? There is no single bladder control treatment that works for everyone. The good news is incontinence is treatable and often curable at all ages. Here at Santoriello Gynecology we have many therapies to help with any bladder control problem.
The muscles of the pelvic floor are like a hammock, acting to support the organs of the abdomen and pelvis (including the bladder). Pelvic floor muscles become weakened or damaged with pregnancy, during childbirth, surgery, excess straining, obesity, or simply due to genetic inheritance or even aging. The result can be pelvic pain, bulging, back pain, incomplete emptying, posturing, or even incontinence. To combat such issues, we teach Kegel exercises. Unfortunately for some, practicing Kegels at home has just not achieved adequate results perhaps due to improper squeezing of the abdominal muscles, the buttocks, or even the thighs. Adding a Biofeedback Program or Pelvic Floor Therapy makes use of an internal sensor (placed in the vagina) to assess and strengthen the pelvic floor.
Constantly worrying about finding a bathroom? We have a solution to your overactive bladder and urgency issues. Our InterStim Program is FDA- approved and clinically proven to significantly improve bladder control in people who have not had success with other treatments such as oral medications and behavioral therapies like Kegel exercises, physical therapy, and dietary and fluid changes. In addition, we provide a in-office Neuromodulation Program using a small amount of electricity to stimulate nerves that control your bladder.
Involuntary loss causing dampness from dribbling to complete wetness, does not have to be a continued way of life. Feelings of embarrassment, and changes to one's social and recreational activities can be diminished. Whether the choice is surgical or non-invasive therapy - there is an answer.
Keep a bladder diary to help your provider assess your individual needs and the appropriate therapy options.
The aging process starts to get our attention at about the age of 30-35 when the hormonal balance begins to shift. As these hormonal changes progress, we look and feel older, we lose muscle bulk/tone and gain fat particularly around the middle. Our blood lipids change and our sex drive diminishes. Today, many of the biomarkers of aging can be measured, monitored and improved through lifestyle changes and supplementation.
The Healthy Aging Program is a preventative medical approach designed to integrate bio-identical hormone supplementation, exercise, diet, proper nutritional supplementation, and stress reduction to achieve optimal health. Our program offers a physician-managed hormone replacement program with individualized lifestyle counseling. The goal of our Healthy Aging Program is to provide a comprehensive health and lifestyle assessment to renew health, zest and vitality.
We thoroughly assess every patient through hormone and/or nutrtitional testing, a complete medical history, and physical exam. We then individually prescribe a unique hormone treatment, nutritional supplementation and appropriate lifestyle enhancement strategies. We continue to monitor your hormone system through periodic testing, symptoms and patient communication to ensure optimal levels are achieved.
Optimizing the body from the inside out takes time, patience, compliance, and commitment. We look forward to working with you to develop a healthy aging plan.
